If your British Gas smart meter stops working, here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue.
Step 1: Check the Display
The first thing you should do if your British Gas smart meter stops working is to check the display. Make sure it is on and displaying information. If the display is blank, try pressing a button to wake it up. If it still doesn’t respond, check the battery. Sometimes, the battery may have run out, so replace it and see if that fixes the issue.
Step 2: Check the Connection
If the display is on, but the device is not communicating with your energy supplier, the problem may be a connectivity issue. Check if your Wi-Fi is working, or if you have any connectivity issues with your internet service provider. If you have a weak signal, try moving the device closer to your router or use a Wi-Fi extender.
Step 3: Restart the Device
If the first two steps do not work, try restarting the device. To do this, turn off the device and unplug it from the wall socket. Leave it unplugged for a few minutes, and then plug it back in and turn it on. Wait for a few minutes, and then check if the device is working correctly.
Step 4: Contact British Gas Customer Support
If none of the above steps work, the next step is to contact British Gas customer support. You can do this via phone, email, or live chat. They will be able to help you troubleshoot the issue and guide you through the next steps, which may include replacing the device if necessary.
