Renewal Process:

  • Notification: Saga sends out a renewal invitation to its policyholders 21 days before the renewal date. This invitation includes details of the premium and the arrangement fee for the upcoming policy year.
  • Automatic Renewal: For those who have opted for a continuous payment method, Saga takes the initiative to automatically renew the policy each year using the provided payment details. This ensures that there’s no break in the coverage, offering peace of mind to the policyholders.
  • Changes in Policy: There might be instances where significant changes to the policy or other external factors, such as changes in the underwriter’s risk criteria or unfavorable insurance market conditions, might affect the renewal. In such cases, if Saga cannot find a suitable insurer from their panel, they will inform the policyholder that they can no longer offer coverage.
  • Alternate Payment Methods: If a policyholder wishes to switch their payment method at the time of renewal, they are advised to contact Saga before the renewal date. Moreover, if someone is on a continuous payment method but decides not to renew their policy, they should inform Saga prior to the renewal date.

Renewal Cancellations:

Cancellations are sometimes inevitable, and understanding the process can save policyholders from potential inconveniences.

  • How to Cancel: Policyholders can cancel their policy by contacting Saga either through a phone call or by writing to their official address. The cancellation will be effective from the date Saga receives the notice or from a future date specified by the policyholder. However, backdating the cancellation is not allowed.
  • Cancellation of Optional Covers: If a policyholder wishes to cancel any optional cover mentioned in their schedule, they can do so by contacting Saga’s customer services.
  • Refunds: If a policyholder cancels their policy, they might be entitled to a pro-rata refund based on the cover duration. However, this refund is subject to certain conditions. For instance, if a claim has been made during the current policy year and hasn’t been settled, the full outstanding cost becomes payable. Furthermore, if the policyholder has made any changes to the policy during the year, charges will only be requested if the amount exceeds £5.
